Located in the heart of the Danube district in Strasbourg, the Vaisseau is dedicated to children and young people from 3 to 15 years old. It is a place to learn but also to have fun where the child is led to manipulate, compare, question according to his own rhythm and his own interests.
Through six thematic areas, visitors can learn more about the human body, animals, water, construction, mathematics or the life of the garden. A rich and constantly renewed cultural program completes the offer: workshops, temporary exhibitions, animations, projections, shows…
Children are more interested in science if it is presented in a playful way.
As a meeting place for children of different nationalities and ages, the Vaisseau has always been open to as many people as possible. As a proof, the entire exhibition space is accessible with translations in German and English. The entire building and garden are thus accessible to people with disabilities.
The Vaisseau team is supported in its programming choices and long-term projects by an international scientific and pedagogical council composed of scientists, educators, directors of science centers and personalities from civil society who meet twice a year.
Representing nearly a quarter of the visits, the school public is at the heart of the Vaisseau's educational mission. The Vaisseau teams offer teachers programs adapted to the school curriculum and to each cycle, from kindergarten to college. School groups are given a special welcome and have the opportunity to take part in an activity supervised by an animator.
The Vaisseau gives children the opportunity to develop their curiosity for science and technology through a playful approach: games, manipulations, actions creations, experiments.
The Vaisseau supports teachers and parents in their educational in their educational mission and can arouse scientific and technical vocations.
The Vaisseau encourages discovery and exchange between generations: children, parents, grandparents. The whole family is welcome!
Everyone learns in their own way and can share their discoveries with the people who accompany them.
The animations and educational tools are adapted to the French and German school programs. Thanks to the explanatory panels in four languages – French German, English, Braille – but also thanks to the intuitive character of its elements, the Vaisseau is also accessible to visitors speaking other languages.
The planned facilities go beyond the requirements of the “Tourism and Disability” label, obtained by the Vaisseau. The Vaisseau must be open to all. The building, the garden and the exhibitions are accessible to people with motor disabilities and 60% of the interactive elements are accessible to all forms of disability, physical or sensory.
The construction and management of the Vaisseau building meets ecological criteria. The role of the Vaisseau is also to make children aware of the protection of their environment, thanks in particular to the zero pesticide educational garden: discovery course, observation of the fauna and flora, meteorological measurements…
